Summary

Under general supervision, coordinates the house management activities of Popejoy Hall during performances. Duties range from the front doors to the stage curtain. Responsible for greeting and providing professional customer service to Popejoy patrons, visiting performers, staff and crew. Prepares reports on each performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Schedules, assigns, and supervises floor managers and volunteer usher corps for performances; coordinates activities with stage crew, security personnel, and the box office, as appropriate.
  2. Opens doors, turns on lights, handles minor house repairs, and monitors facilities for cleanliness.
  3. Coordinates program distribution; set-up and clean-up of tables, easels, programs, posters, flyers, and other display materials.
  4. Coordinates receptions and meetings.
  5. May supervise performance-specific merchandising activities.
  6. Responsible for professional customer service delivery to patrons, staff and visiting performers.
  7. Coordinates house evacuations during emergencies.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to plan and supervise house services for theatrical performances and/or events.
  • Knowledge of operational, facility, equipment and resources requirements associated with special events.
  • Knowledge of theatrical floor plans.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Knowledge of retail floor merchandising and stock control procedures.
  • Ability to problem solve, make immediate decisions and provide leaderhsip skills and examples.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work schedules are event driven and vary from week to week. Flexible hours, seven days a week.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
