The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. They should not be viewed as an exhaustive list of the specific duties and prerequisites applicable to individual positions that have been so classified.
Performs standardized or prescribed research assignments involving a sequence of related operations under detailed and controlled research, laboratory, or field procedures in physics, astronomy, geology, chemistry, and similar fields. Conducts a variety of standardized tests; prepares test specimens. Sets up and operates standard laboratory testing equipment of moderate complexity. Records test data, providing basic analyses and interpretations. May specialize in astrophysics, thermodynamics, nuclear physics, meteoritics, or related areas.
