Summary

Under indirect supervision, acts as a research-based liaison and interpretive information resource to the University research community and other targeted constituencies with respect to human research projects being conducted within a specified clinical research operation. Develops mechanisms and serves as a conduit for effective information exchange and collaboration among researchers, and may serve as a co-investigator on specific research studies. Provides technical assistance in the design and development of grant applications, presentations, and manuscripts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Evaluates information exchange and dissemination opportunities within study designs and objectives; works with research investigators to determine informational requirements on the part of research participants and other interested individuals and constituencies.
  2. Interprets and prepares research study and related data into formats suitable for informational dissemination to targeted groups; designs and develops informational materials and oversees timely distribution.
  3. Serves as an interpretive information source on relevant fields of study for external constituencies; utilizes current knowledge of the field to enhance communications and understanding of study projects among the targeted community.
  4. Assists with the design, organization, and implementation of research studies; serves as co-investigator and coordinator of research studies, as appropriate.
  5. Assists with the design and development of presentations, manuscripts, and grant applications, as appropriate; participates as appropriate in the presentation and/or dissemination of results, to include attendance at meetings and conferences, and/or development of website materials.
  6. Serves as a research-based liaison between the scientific and the clinical communities as required.
  7. Coordinates and assists the development of human subject protocols and documentation; assists in the submission of research study reports to the UNM Human Research Review Committee and granting agencies.
  8. Recruits, supervises, trains, and evaluates technical and/or administrative support staff.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures of basic medical and/or clinical research.
  • Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant fields of biomedical and human subject research.
  • Ability to interpret and disseminate technical and scientific information in a form easily understood by a wide range of non-scientific personnel.
  • Ability to design, develop, and present scientific manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Knowledge of the principals, procedures, and ethical considerations surrounding the conduct of invasive and non-invasive human research.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of the Internet, and ability to develop website documents.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
