Summary

Sets up, operates, and maintains all phases of a state-of-the-art digital electronic publishing system. Ensures optimum production efficiency and compliance with customer requirements and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Receives and prepares jobs for production; prepares job tickets and determines correct feature selection for proper output; interfaces with customers as necessary and ensures adequate supplies of production materials are available and in serviceable condition.
  2. Sets up, adjusts, monitors, operates, and maintains the publishing system, to include reprographic production printing, storage, bindery, and finishing, ensuring maximum quality and quantity of productivity.
  3. Programs and calibrates the system in accordance with job ticket requirements; uses system knowledge to select and enter appropriate features and options to ensure successful successful compliance with individual production requirements.
  4. Uses electronic job management techniques and procedures to establish and manipulate print priorities and properties as required.
  5. Produces finished job, checks final output to ensure compliance with specifications and standards, and distributes to customer.
  6. Monitors and troubleshoots production system problems as they arise, utilizing established technical guides and processes; makes appropriate adjustments, clears faults, and performs cold or warm boot procedures when applicable.
  7. Performs a variety of standard job customization and reprogramming upon request, or as appropriate to improve quality of output.
  8. Provides advice and guidance to customers and/or lower level reprographic techs, as appropriate, on optimal production techniques and standards; suggests modifications to job ticket requests to improve output; .
  9. Ensures continuity of production into the next shift; communicates unfinished production requirements, either electronically or by conversation, to subsequent techs.
  10. Completes and reviews pricing information on job tickets to determine job costs and ensure accuracy of all material and service charges; prepares cash deposits.
  11. Maintains accurate and complete production records for control and billing purposes.
  12. Keeps work areas orderly, clean, and safe; ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of the operational characteristics and production requirements and capabilities of digital electronic publishing systems.
  • Ability to interpret customer printing requrements and advise on digital reprographic techniques and options.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Skill in the setup, operation, adjustment, and routine troubleshooting/maintenance of a digital electronic publishing system, such as Xerox Docutech.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation, to include use of software commands, storage and manipulation of information, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Skill in the application of electronic publishing job management techniques and processes.
  • Skill in the estimation and control of work flow through the digital printing process.
  • Knowledge of reprographic print, bindery, and finish standards.

Conditions of Employment

  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
