Summary

Directs and oversees the management of all aspects of the University's golf courses, to include course operations, golf concessions, turf and equipment maintenance, and retail facilities. Represents the University to external vendors, community representatives, businesses, and visitors. Oversees the coordination of golf tournaments and serves as the primary point of contact with the University Intercollegiate Athletics Department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directs and oversees all aspects of the operation of the UNM Championship Golf Course and the UNM North Golf Course, to include all pro shop operations, course supervision, course maintenance, course marketing, and customer relations.
  2. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
  3. Interacts with students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and visitors to the golf courses to ensure customer satisfaction; works with vendors to maintain golf courses and facilities.
  4. Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.
  5. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  6. Serves as the primary point of contact for all activities and operations of the University's golf courses; collaborates with University Athletics programs in order to provide services to golf athletes and negotiates agreements regarding the use of golf courses and facilities.
  7. Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization.
  8. Oversees the coordination and organization of special promotional activities such as local, regional, and national golf tournaments.
  9. Represents the University to various institutional divisions as well as externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students and their parents, and/or the general public.
  10. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with state, regional, and national golf organizations.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certified member of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) under the PGA Professional Golf Management program.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work may, on occasion, involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 35 pounds.
