Summary
Under indirect supervision, oversees a large, integrated wellness program for UNM employees. Provides and implements program planning, budgeting, and administration, and develops related operational policies and procedures. The program supports and aligns with Benefits departmental strategic cost saving initiatives, as well as Human Resources goals and mission. Program initiatives may be research oriented, employee services, activity based and/or education oriented.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, develops, implements, and coordinates a large university wide Employee Health Promotion (EHP) program.
Designs and implements systems to collect, maintain, and analyze data; generates preliminary and final progress reports, and other information related to EHP wellness initiatives.
Establishes and implements short and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement.
Directs, supervises and oversees the daily administrative components of the EHP department.
Designs, establishes, and maintains staffing and an organizational structure to effectively accomplish UNM?s Wellness program; recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates EHP staff.
Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records for wellness initiatives.
Performs community liaison and outreach activities for community wellness initiatives and programs.
Actively markets and promotes wellness initiatives to UNM employees.
Develops and manages annual budget for EHP and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
Plans and develops strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for EHP.
Recommends, participates in the development of, and establishes policies and procedures; may serve on department/division/university planning and policy-making committees.
May represent UNM to various institutional departments and divisions as well as externally to local and national organizations, and the general public.
Provides expertise in the specialized wellness field and participates in local or statewide task forces.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; one of which must be supervisory.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
Program planning and implementation skills.
Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements.
Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
Skill in developing policy and procedure documentation.
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and coordinate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
Knowledge of management principles and practices.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to serve on task forces and/or committees.
Conditions of Employment
May require discipline-specific licensure and/or professional certification, as specified by the department in the preferences.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
