Summary
Plans, implements, manages, and evaluates integrated instructional media projects, programs, and support for one or more education-related components of the University. Establishes instructional media standards based on sound adult learning principles and develops design strategies. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and quality standards for instructional media project and program activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, develops, implements, and administers complex, integrated instructional media projects, to include budget and administrative management.
Coordinates and collaborates with external educators, agencies, and/or organizations on a regional and/or national basis in the planning, development, and completion of instructional media projects requiring external representation.
Works with educators to analyze needs and to determine goals, objectives, and appropriate implementation strategies, methods, and techniques for integrated instructional media programs.
Oversees, leads, and coordinates the activities of technical and/or support staff on a project basis; assigns tasks and participates in the evaluation of work performed.
Participates in the identification and acquisition of funding sources for instructional media projects, to include direct assistance in grant writing and preparation.
Coordinates the development, evaluation, and implementation of new and enhanced technologies appropriate to distance education and/or other forms of instructional media.
Leads and oversees the design, development, and production of associated educational media products and related aids and materials, as appropriate to the needs of the activity, ensuring conformance to established project objectives and media standards.
Maintains currency with developments and changes in new media technologies, through research, usage of technology, and attending and presenting at conferences.
Serves on and may chair University committees to advise on, assist in awareness of, and provide access to computer and/or media related resources.
Participates in operational planning and in the development and administration of operating policies and procedures, as appropriate.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to provide technical leadership and project management within area of professional expertise.
Knowledge and understanding of the instructional systems design process.
Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
Ability to understand and interpret educational needs and to develop effective instructional media solutions.
Knowledge of adult learning theory.
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
Skill in examining and evaluating operations and developing and/or re-engineering operating strategies, systems, and procedures.
Proposal and grant writing skills.
Knowledge and understanding of adult education and/or distance learning technologies.
Comprehensive knowledge of advanced instructional media production principles, methods, techniques, and standards.
Skill in the use of computers, instructional media and graphic design programs, and relevant authoring and programming languages.
Knowledge of budget preparation, cost estimating, monitoring, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
