Summary

Hired on a per course basis, teaches or instructs non-credit vocational or occupational subjects at the postsecondary level in professional continuing education, workforce development, non-transcript certificates, and/or personal enrichment contexts. May teach or instruct participating minors in certain topics or classes. This is a fixed-term position (tied to the length of the course) that is restricted to part-time positions classified as "TN" status by the University.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
  2. Provides effective instruction that encompasses active and meaningful learning activities and frequent and timely feedback to students regarding their progress.
  3. Develops course curriculum, materials/handouts, lectures, and/or labs, and updates regularly to ensure relevancy and currency; selects required course resources and textbooks, as necessary.
  4. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  5. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.
  6. May provide students with a course syllabus which aligns with the common course syllabus and provides information detailing learning expectations, major assignments, and methods of evaluation.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Must meet instructor degree, certification, or licensure requirements related to course content or other defined criteria.
  • May require prior teaching or industry experience directly related to the program or course, as determined by the hiring organization.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to design, and implement curriculum, and/or teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain certification and/or licensure status.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Candidate must pass a criminal background check if position involves contact with minors.
  • This position is typically a term limit position, and is subject to renewal each semester.
