Summary
Provides integrated planning, management, and leadership in the development and administration of international education programs, services, and associated initiatives of the Global Education Office impacting multiple strategic core functions and components across the university. Identifies key strategic opportunities and interfaces with both domestic and international senior administration, faculty, staff, industry, academic, and government agency officials in the representation and development of international education programs and services designed to strengthen the university's international initiatives portfolio. Develops and implements activities to strengthen global communication and understanding through involvement in the various dimensions of educational and cultural exchange.
Duties and Responsibilities
Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and strategically aligns and integrates policies, programs, and initiatives to ensure a coordinated and supportive infrastructure for global learning.
Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.
Represents the university to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, vendors, students and their parents, and/or the general public both domestic and international in order to support the growth of an international community and international awareness on campus.
Frequently travels nationally and internationally.
Participates in various community activities of an international nature.
Works in coordination with executive administration and faculty to evaluate, develop, and execute comprehensive administrative and programmatic strategies to enhance the university's presence abroad in alignment with university internationalization goals.
Oversees the overall operations of unit(s) reporting to this position which includes international recruitment and admissions; international student and scholar services; education abroad; and the university's intensive English program for non-native speakers.
Ensures the maintenance of institutional compliance with federal regulations regarding international scholars and students.
Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization.
Recommends and participates in the development of university policies and procedures; may serve on university planning and policy-making committees.
Promotes and fosters an academic culture of global engagement.
Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Master's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Strong understanding of the issues, trends, best practices, and opportunities in international education.
Knowledge of program and service marketing, planning and management of international recruitment efforts, including international relationship management.
Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within international education. Ability to facilitate collaboration in order to implement and maintain effective risk management protocols.
Ability to evaluate, develop, and execute new international programs to increase global engagement of students and faculty.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse, transnational context.
Ability to demonstrate competencies and lead staff in public relations, state, national and international political protocol, organizational development, and problem solving.
Ability to speak a second language fluently.
Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management and ability to identify and secure opportunities for new or alternate revenue streams.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources.
Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
Ability to assess, develop, and execute programs to assist incoming and outgoing students with assimilation issues.
Knowledge of on-line and distributed educational methodologies.
Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
Ability to supervise, train, and develop employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Conditions of Employment
Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
