Summary

Manages and oversees the Center for Academic Excellence and Leadership Development (CAELD). Lead efforts to identify, mentor, and support high-achieving students in pursuit of prestigious national and international scholarships. Provides individualized advising, strategic programming, and institutional collaboration to prepare students for scholarship opportunities such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, Udall and Fulbright scholarships. Works closely with faculty, staff, and leadership to identify promising candidates, develop competitive applications, and enhance the University's national presence in scholarship competitions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manages and oversees the process of nationally competitive scholarships for UNM students and leads initiatives to increase UNM's national presence in scholarship competitions.
  2. Provides mentorship to high performing students who are seeking prestigious national and international scholarships.
  3. Coordinates and collaborates with campus programs, faculty, and University leadership.
  4. Serves as a liaison between UNM and national and international scholarship foundations.
  5. Serves as liaison with national and international scholarship funding agencies; keeps abreast of emerging and developing scholarship opportunities.
  6. Coordinates strategic planning and goal development for the organization; monitors achievement of goals and objectives and provides reports.
  7. Represents the organization to various institutional divisions as well as externally to professional and community constituencies.
  8. Provides administrative support to the University's Phi Beta Kappa chapter.
  9. Provides administrative support for the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship.
  10. Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction to the unit.
  11. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  12. May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of the policies and eligibility requirements of a range of national and international scholarship programs for students.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities with an ability to manage expectations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various sources and procedures for obtaining scholarships.
  • Knowledge of scholarship policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
