Summary

Under general supervision, leads and oversees educational development services and initiatives within assigned functional areas. Supervises staff; assigns and prioritizes work; and provides advanced consultation on curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, and instructional technologies. Oversees faculty development programming, evaluates instructional development services using assessment data, and represents the unit in collaborative initiatives to advance institutional teaching and learning goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Leads and oversees instructional design and educational development services and initiatives within assigned functional areas. Establishes priorities, assigns work, and ensures instructional development activities are delivered in alignment with unit goals, timelines, and quality standards.
  2. Provides advanced consultation and guidance to faculty, instructors, and instructional staff on course design, pedagogy, curriculum alignment, assessment strategies, and instructional technologies; serves as a subject matter resource on methods and practices of teaching and learning.
  3. Supervises personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  4. Provides structured guidance, mentoring, and formative feedback to staff employees. Supports professional development and ensures staff performance aligns with established expectations and best practices.
  5. Conducts needs assessments and diagnoses instructional challenges to identify teaching and learning support opportunities. Applies research-informed pedagogical frameworks to propose targeted instructional solutions.
  6. Oversees the design, implementation, and delivery of faculty development programs, workshops, and instructional support offerings. Ensures programming is responsive to identified needs and aligned with institutional teaching and learning priorities.
  7. Coordinates and manages multiple instructional development projects and initiatives. Establishes timelines, monitors progress, integrates stakeholder input, and ensures completion of deliverables in support of unit objectives.
  8. Develops and applies metrics and data collection approaches to assess the effectiveness of instructional development services and initiatives. Analyzes and interprets assessment results and prepares summaries and reports to support planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement.
  9. Contributes to and/or initiates education research and scholarship of teaching and learning activities, as appropriate, to inform practice and advance instructional development efforts.
  10. Collaborates with academic departments, campus partners, and stakeholders to advance instructional development initiatives. Represents the unit on committees, working groups, and cross-functional teams related to teaching and learning
  11. Maintains awareness of emerging trends, research, and best practices in pedagogy, learning sciences, and instructional technologies. Disseminates relevant findings through instructional resources and staff guidance.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
