Summary

Coordinates a variety of activities associated with student services, such as event programming, reading and tutoring services, exam scheduling and/or proctoring, student orientation, and course advisement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops and implements systems and methods for academic support for specific student population.
  2. Coordinates administrative activities and provides clerical support for programs.
  3. Assists students with academic endeavors, which may include coordinating tutorial services such as reading services for the learning, visually, or physically disabled students, and/or other academic tutoring.
  4. Coordinates class examinations with students and instructors; schedules exams, assigns proctors, and recommends resolutions to problems.
  5. Monitors student performance and submission of pertinent information to ensure that academic and eligibility requirements are met; counsels students concerning course selections appropriate for chosen disciplines.
  6. Develops confidentiality recordkeeping procedures and manages appropriate department records in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and standards.
  7. Prepares and provides post-activity evaluation data, as appropriate to the objectives of the position; prepares scheduled and special reports as required.
  8. May interview, hire, train, schedule, and supervise tutors, mentors, proctors, and other individuals assisting in provision of academic support services.
  9. May supervise student employees, volunteers and/or interns; may lead lower-graded staff.
  10. May participate in student recruitment activities and in planning and development of workshops, career development presentations, and cultural programming.
  11. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of campus support organizations.
  • Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of academic advisement procedures.
  • Knowledge of programs/services available to university students.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to lead and train assigned staff.
  • Knowledge of policies, programs and service delivery models for disabled college student populations.
  • Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills.
  • Clerical, word processing, and/or office skills.
  • Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records.

Conditions of Employment

  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
