Summary

Coordinates and assists in the day-to-day classroom lecture demonstration activities of a sciences or engineering educational program. Oversees the procurement and management of facilities, equipment, and supplies. Participates in the development of and implements and coordinates new demonstrations. Maintains records and computerized database of inventory and Lecture Demonstration website.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees and coordinates all day-to-day operational and support activities of the demonstration area; ensures that demonstration equipment is operational and present at the required time.
  2. Provides technical expertise and responds to technical questions from staff, students, and faculty.
  3. Performs and coordinates maintenance and repairs on demonstration equipment; oversees and coordinates the development and construction of new demonstrations.
  4. Manages a computerized database of existing equipment and procedures to maintain the integrity of collection; implements and maintains inventory control systems and procedures.
  5. Provides administrative and technical management of a website consisting of faculty-related information; establishes formats and logical structures for web pages, as appropriate.
  6. Analyzes costs of equipment replacements, additions, modifications, and/or upgrades; initiates paperwork for purchases of equipment, supplies, and other materials necessary to maintain demonstration area; submits annual budget requests and regularly monitors expenditures.
  7. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and systems to effectively recommend changes, update, and redesign of facilities.
  8. Participates in the development of department goals and objectives; recommends, implements, and administers policies and procedures to enhance operations.
  9. Advises and guides faculty in the use of demonstration equipment, including audio/visual and computer resources.
  10. Ensures adherence to established University and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and safety standards including the use and safe handling/disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials.
  11. Expedites and coordinates facilities remodeling and maintenance of building systems, equipment, and facilities, as appropriate; monitors building security and video surveillance, building repairs, and custodial services.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, methods, and techniques in area of specialty.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Knowledge of building and assets security principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of procurement rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints and/or technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of web page development and website maintenance.
  • Ability to assess operational requirements and to plan and organize workflow patterns and schedules.
  • Ability to maintain and design technical equipment including electrical, mechanical and audio/visual systems.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures applicable to activities.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software as related to audio/visual and computer driven presentations.
  • Knowledge of physics and physical principles.

Conditions of Employment

  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of objects that can weigh up to 50 pounds (or greater mass that require mechanical assistance). Standing or walking may occur up to 40% of time.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
