Summary

Under the direction of the Director of UNM Campus Capital & Space Planning, analyzes, develops and coordinates the University's Integrated Campus Plan and other campus plans and planning efforts to improve and maximize the efficient use of campus spaces. Serves to create a physical environment that advances the institution's academic, research, and community service missions. Coordinates efforts across multiple internal and external constituencies and oversees a team of technical and professional personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Leads, organizes and coordinates the University's efforts to analyze, develop, maintain and implement campus plans for UNM main campus, branch campuses and other UNM owned lands, as needed.
2. Facilitates internal and external committees, seeks community input, engages campus constituents, and consults with external consultants regarding planning for University landscapes, facilities, urban development, utilities, transportation systems, information technologies, and open spaces.
3. Develops and implements institutional processes, guidelines, and standards to ensure campus planning efforts align with the University's established missions, objectives and strategic plans, as well as regulatory requirements.
4. Manages campus planning and facility development projects. Provides client leadership in the management of external consulting resources.
5. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, dismissing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
6. Conducts studies, analyzes data, and makes recommendations on a wide variety of campus planning issues that include building sites, landscape, lighting, parking, transportation systems, and other related infrastructure components.
7. Researches trends and determines strategic campus physical growth needs, and provides facilitation and support in the establishment of a responsive, comprehensive master plan for campus facilities and real property development.
8. Champions in long-range planning and strategic problem solving to address campus facility, land-use, and development issues; participates in the annual update of the University's five-year capital budget plan to ensure consistency with and/or revision of the Integrated Campus Plan.
9. Establishes and implements effective unit operating policies, systems, and procedures that are consistent with overall organizational goals, objectives, policies and operating standards.
10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a directly related field of study; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

• Broad and in-depth knowledge and understanding of campus planning and development principles.
• Advanced knowledge of site planning and building codes, ADA, OSAA and other related construction regulations.
• Superior ability to investigate and analyze campus-planning information and to draw conclusions.

• Demonstrated knowledge in the arenas of planning and urban design, sustainability, space planning, site design and/or landscape architecture.

• Advanced design management skills. Ability to directly subordinates and consulting teams on site development matters.

Conditions of Employment

• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
