Summary

The ERP Program Director serves as the senior leader responsible for the successful delivery of UNM's ERP Transformation. Reporting directly to UNM's Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Director will lead the implementation of ERP Applications across the UNM enterprise, including ERP/Finance, Human Capital Management, Enterprise Performance Management, and related modules. This role ensures alignment between institutional strategy and program execution across Finance, Human Resources, Information Technologies, and our campus community throughout UNM's ERP implementation and facilitates governance, scope, and outcomes. This position operates at the executive level, bridging the Steering Committee and the Executive team, and is accountable for ensuring the implementation advances UNM's strategic priorities and embodies UNM's One University goal. It represents a significant opportunity to modernize the university's core administrative systems and enhance operational effectiveness across the UNM enterprise. To ensure successful system implementation, the Director will be responsible for guiding the organizational change, stakeholder engagement, communication, and adoption efforts necessary to achieve sustainable outcomes. The Director must effectively navigate a highly matrixed environment, building consensus among executive leadership, stakeholders in the administration, academic affairs, and health sciences, and project teams while maintaining focus on enterprise outcomes. The Director will serve as a member of the leadership team guiding the transformation in partnership with the Chief Information Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer, and University Controller, as well as the Director of Enterprise Applications. Working alongside the leaders who will ultimately operate, govern, resource, and continuously improve these systems, the Director will leverage and build upon existing practices and align program decisions with long-term operational needs and ensure a sustainable operating model for the future. Success requires influencing without direct authority, building consensus among stakeholders, and ensuring an effective transition from implementation to ongoing operations. The Director leads with a proactive, highly collaborative approach, building trusted partnerships across the university while maintaining accountability for enterprise outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Translate executive vision into a cohesive enterprise systems modernization.
  2. Ensure alignment with UNM 2040 priorities and institutional strategy, maintaining a One University approach program-wide.
  3. Serve as primary liaison to the Executive Sponsor and Steering Committee, ensuring alignment on priorities and decision-making.
  4. Build upon existing approaches at UNM to establish and enforce governance structures, decision rights, and escalation paths.
  5. Build upon existing approaches at UNM to develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise transformation strategy encompassing organizational change management, communications, stakeholder engagement, training, and adoption.
  6. Lead enterprise business process redesign aligned to best practices and foster alignment amongst stakeholders to support adoption.
  7. Prepare and deliver executive-level communications, recommendations, and status updates to sponsors, governance bodies, and institutional stakeholders.
  8. Own program scope integrity and prevent fragmentation across functional areas.
  9. Identify and manage enterprise-level risks and interdependencies.
  10. Resolve conflicts between units and drive enterprise solutions.
  11. Provide executive oversight of system integrator and software vendor, in close coordination with UNM IT.
  12. Responsible for program financial performance, including budget management, contract expenditures, forecasting, and reporting.
  13. Define and monitor measures of program success, adoption, and business value realization to ensure the transformation delivers the intended outcomes.
  14. Build upon existing approaches at UNM to solidify the foundations for long-term enterprise system governance, operational ownership, and continuous improvement following implementation.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Demonstrated success delivering full lifecycle enterprise system implementations.
  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational change and stakeholder engagement initiatives within large-scale enterprise transformations.
  • Strong program management, financial oversight, and risk management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, and a proven ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups with competing priorities.
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex organizations.
  • Expertise leading ERP implementations in higher education, healthcare, or other complex matrixed organizations.
  • Experience leading programs with multiple workstreams across Finance, HCM, and Planning/Budgeting, or comparable enterprise functions.
  • Experience working with 3rd party Implementation partners.
  • Experience leading business process transformation in complex, decentralized organizations.
