Summary

Under indirect supervision, provides intermediate professional level support in areas of advanced complexity such as management and oversight of medium and small-scale projects and the integrated project plans, including implementation schedules and resource estimates for significant university projects. Assesses risk and cost estimates for major, long-term projects. Provides practice and process guidance to client departments in the implementation of complex projects. May supervise or provide functional direction to assigned staff and/or student employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Uses discretionary judgement to participate and assist in the coordination of project concept through final implementation using structured project management methodology.
  2. Ensures that realistic project, quality, change control and risk management processes are maintained; ensures satisfactory and timely completion of deliverables and overall project; makes recommendations and provides updates to management on project progress.
  3. Provides practice and process guidance to the project team, and takes appropriate action where project team performance deviates from agreed tolerances; may supervise or provide functional direction to assigned staff and/or student employees.
  4. Participates in strategic analysis and initial proposal process for medium scale information technology projects of moderately advanced complexity.
  5. Monitors costs, timescales and resources used, and recommends action where these deviate from agreed-on parameters.
  6. Provides analysis and consultation on the design and implementation of effective administrative processes, to include process analysis, redesign, and organizational effectiveness.
  7. Manages the established project change control procedure, and ensures that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are approved; works with project owner to schedule changes in the work environment related to projects according to established change management processes.
  8. Acts as representative of the project team for the project management aspect when providing project status to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  9. Creates and facilitates communications for project teams, sponsors and university constituents. Provides regular and accurate reports to stakeholders as appropriate.
  10. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to evolving methodologies for technical project execution and participates in adoption of new methods.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of project management software.
  • Group facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Familiarity with implementation of information technology components, to include a range of hardware, software, and infrastructure.
  • Skill in providing/presenting technical information and concepts at the department or level.
  • Ability to incorporate into project plans the results of analysis of complex problems, interpretation of operational needs, and development of integrated, creative solutions.
  • Ability to guide project team(s) in resolution of problems, concerns, challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position Requires: a) Analysis, planning, and development of small to medium projects, typically 500 to 1000 project hours; b) Work within established financial parameters; and c) Performing risk assessment at the departmental level.

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
