The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. Summary

Under indirect supervision, participates and assists in the analysis and assessment of individual, community, and/or organizational training and development needs; coordinates, designs, and/or delivers a variety of specified training and development programs for a range of individual and/or collective clientele.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Delivers group and individual training and instruction covering specified areas, such as those concerned with employee orientation, on-the-job training, use of computers and software, health and safety practices, public relations, promotional development, and leadership development.
  2. Develops training curricula and/or recommends or utilizes vendor programs that meet instructional goals and objectives.
  3. Formulates training outlines and determines instructional methods, utilizing knowledge of specified training needs and effectiveness of such methods as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops.
  4. Selects or develops training aids, including training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works.
  5. Coordinates or performs administrative functions necessary to deliver and document training programs.
  6. Evaluates effectiveness of training and development programs and utilizes relevant evaluation data to revise or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods.
  7. Assists in analyzing and assessing training and development needs for individuals, communities, and/or university departments.
  8. May review instructor performance and recommend improvements to program content and/or instructor presentation methods; may recruit, select, and train instructors.
  9. May perform organizational development interventions including strategic planning, group facilitation, team building, and systems analysis; may coordinate and facilitate career development programs for staff.
  10. Provides input and assists in the planning, assessment, and implementation of overall department goals and objectives.
  11. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodology.
  • Skill in preparing instructional aids and plans.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) implementation and facilitation of training and development events and programs; b) consultation and collaboration with individuals and departments on training and development issues; c) assessment of training and development needs and objectives, and designing and developing responsive programs and initiatives; d) design and development of a wide range of training plans, curriculum, and aids.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
