Summary

Directs business intelligence and analytics functions supporting the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (HSC). Develops and executes strategic direction for reporting, analytics, and business intelligence services supporting clinical, research, education, and administrative missions. Oversees multiple functions and initiatives, establishes departmental priorities and standards, manages resources and performance, and advises leadership on business intelligence capabilities and opportunities. Promotes data-driven decision-making, data literacy, innovation, and effective use of institutional information.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directs business intelligence and analytics functions, including managers and professional staff, and provides leadership for workforce planning, performance management, staff development, and resource allocation.
  2. Develops and executes strategic direction and long-range plans for BI, reporting, dashboards, self-service analytics, and related capabilities in alignment with HSC priorities.
  3. Establishes departmental priorities and oversees a portfolio of reporting and analytics initiatives supporting clinical, research, education, administrative, and strategic objectives.
  4. Directs the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of BI reporting, dashboards, visualizations, and analytical solutions; ensures effective use of resources and successful delivery.
  5. Advises organizational leadership regarding BI capabilities, priorities, emerging needs, analytical opportunities, and strategies to improve organizational decision support.
  6. Establishes departmental standards for reporting, data visualization, documentation, accessibility, user experience, business definitions, performance measures, and analytical practices.
  7. Builds partnerships with organizational leadership, information technology, enterprise data teams, application owners, data stewards, and business stakeholders to advance reporting and analytics capabilities.
  8. Provides strategic oversight of data quality, governance, stewardship, security, privacy, and regulatory compliance within assigned areas of responsibility.
  9. Evaluates emerging BI technologies, reporting platforms, visualization tools, and analytical methodologies and develops plans to improve capabilities, automation, self-service analytics, and operational efficiency.
  10. Establishes departmental performance measures and monitors service quality, project delivery, operational effectiveness, reporting quality, and customer satisfaction.
  11. Leads complex organizational initiatives and identifies and implements changes necessary to address emerging business, reporting, technology, and analytical needs.
  12. Participates in departmental strategic planning, budget development and monitoring, and allocation of financial and personnel resources.
  13. Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures and participates in the development and evaluation of institutional policies, standards, and practices related to data and analytics.
  14. Promotes a culture of analytics, data literacy, collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation across assigned functions.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 9 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Comprehensive knowledge of business intelligence strategy, enterprise reporting, analytics, data visualization, and performance measurement.
  • Knowledge of enterprise data governance, data stewardship, metadata management, data quality, privacy, and security principles.
  • Knowledge of BI architecture, enterprise data warehouses, reporting technologies, and analytical platforms.
  • Knowledge of healthcare, higher education, research, academic, and administrative business environments.
  • Ability to develop and execute long-range strategic and operational plans.
  • Ability to direct multiple functions, managers, professional staff, and complex portfolios of work.
  • Ability to establish organizational priorities, allocate resources, and manage competing institutional needs.
  • Ability to lead organizational change and proactively address complex and emerging business needs.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) strategic and operational direction of multiple business intelligence and analytics functions; b) direct and indirect supervision of managers and professional staff; c) development and execution of long-range BI and analytics strategies; d) oversight of complex project and reporting portfolios and allocation of organizational resources; e) establishment of departmental reporting, analytics, data quality, and performance standards; f) budget planning and monitoring; g) executive-level consultation and development of cross-functional partnerships; h) identification and implementation of organizational change; and i) development of departmental policies and procedures and participation in institutional policy development.

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
