Summary
Under the direction of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Chief Strategy and Partnership Officer for Academic Affairs advances the University of New Mexico's (UNM) mission by developing, implementing, and leading strategic initiatives that require collaboration within the institution and with key external partners. This role will ensure that UNM supports the development of New Mexico's advanced workforce needs by establishing clear professional pathways for students from matriculation to graduation, aligning academic programs with evolving workforce demands. Strengthens UNM's role in key economic sectors by connecting faculty and students with industry leaders, including national laboratories. Provides strategic leadership in addressing challenges related to healthcare workforce expansion, such as educational capacity, budget models, and pipeline programs. Fosters innovative initiatives to support student success and drive regional growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
Identifies opportunities to align curricula, co-curricular programs, and research opportunities with career pathways in key sectors to ensure students are prepared for meaningful careers across New Mexico.
Addresses challenges in healthcare workforce expansion, including assessing educational capacity, budget models, and pipeline programs, while ensuring alignment between UNM Health Sciences Center and the broader university.
Leads the development of new academic programs and learning locations, including expanding UNM's presence in Downtown Albuquerque.
Cultivates partnerships that integrate industry-connected educational experiences into academic programs.
Establishes and maintains relationships with industry leaders, government agencies, and employers to enhance career pathways and workforce alignment for students.
Serves as a liaison to the national and defense laboratories in New Mexico.
Advises the Provost on strategic planning initiatives, including but not limited to defining measurable goals and using data to inform institutional decision-making.
Develops and implements initiatives that help students explore and navigate career opportunities through internships, mentoring, and collaboration with industry professionals.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Master's degree; at least 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Strong understanding of career pathways in healthcare, research, and other high-demand industries.
Knowledge of university structures, academic planning, and curriculum development.
Ability to lead, guide, and integrate strategic planning processes for academic and workforce development initiatives.
Knowledge of funding strategies, grant development, and resource allocation for academic initiatives.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including data-driven decision-making.
Knowledge of regional trends, workforce development needs, and the role of higher education in economic sustainability.
Experience developing and implementing institutional policies and strategic frameworks.
Ability to manage complex projects with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and industry leaders.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and partnership-building skills.
Ability to serve as a representative at community or business functions.
Knowledge of concepts, practices, principles and procedures of strategic business planning and reporting.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and lead cross-functional teams.
