Summary

Directs and oversees the implementation and management of Main Campus research compliance programs. Serves as the senior staff administrator and liaison for issues pertaining to research compliance activities and functions. Manages the provision of consultative services provided to core office staff. Facilitates the interpretation and implementation of administrative agency regulations, research policy, and standard operating procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directs and oversees the administration of Main Campus research compliance services and programs; including human research protections, conflict of interest, export control, industrial security, and research ethics and integrity.
  2. Manages the provision of consultative services provided to core office staff in the coordination, facilitation, and negotiation of contracts, grants, and agreements on behalf of the institution.
  3. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  4. Advises senior management on the implications of proposed and existing regulations, policies, and practices governing research compliance in institutions of higher education (HEs).
  5. Establishes and implements short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement.
  6. Directs the design and delivery of education/training in various formats on topics related to research and various areas of research compliance.
  7. Serves as the designated Main Campus empowered official, delegated institutional official for the Institutional Review Board, and research integrity officer.
  8. Develops and manages budgets and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  9. Oversees special projects involving university officials, government agencies, and industry.May require the gathering of data, investigation of operational practices, and the implementation of process improvement strategies.
  10. Represents the university in activities involving funding agencies, regulatory bodies, and other external entities.
  11. Keeps abreast of issues and developments in current/emerging issues in research administration and compliance by reading journals, attending professional conferences, and maintains effective communication with colleagues nationwide.
  12. May serve on various boards, committees, and operating groups, both internally and externally.
  13. May oversee and lead multiple services, programs, initiatives, and/or operating groups as required by management.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
