Summary
Manages the day-to-day operations and staff of a business intelligence and analytics function supporting the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (HSC). Provides leadership and technical direction for the development and delivery of reports, dashboards, visualizations, and analytics solutions supporting healthcare quality, operations, and organizational decision-making. Establishes priorities, reporting standards, and work processes; ensures data quality and governance; and partners with leadership and stakeholders to advance HSC analytics initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manages and oversees the design, development, implementation, and optimization of complex reports, dashboards, scorecards, data models, visualizations, and analytical solutions using enterprise BI platforms and data warehouse resources.
Manages and supervises professional staff, including hiring, work assignment, coaching, performance management, staff development, and disciplinary actions.
Establishes team priorities, allocates resources, monitors workloads, and ensures timely and effective delivery of business intelligence and analytics solutions.
Leads the development and delivery of dashboards, reports, visualizations, and analytical solutions using Tableau and other enterprise BI and data warehouse resources.
Provides technical direction and reviews analytical work products to ensure quality, accuracy, consistency, usability, and alignment with organizational standards.
Partners with leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams to define reporting requirements, prioritize analytics initiatives, and support strategic and operational goals.
Oversees data quality, reporting methodologies, documentation, and adherence to data governance, security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
Establishes and promotes reporting, visualization, documentation, and BI development standards and best practices for the work unit.
Provides leadership in resolving complex reporting, data quality, performance, and visualization issues and recommends enhancements to reporting processes and technologies.
Manages BI projects and concurrent analytics initiatives, coordinating resources and activities to support successful implementation and delivery.
Participates in data governance and cross-functional initiatives and facilitates communication between business stakeholders and technical teams.
Develops and implements work unit procedures, internal controls, and operational processes and recommends improvements to departmental policies and practices.
Promotes staff development, knowledge sharing, training, and adoption of BI tools, reporting standards, and analytics best practices.
Maintains knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, data visualization practices, and enterprise BI capabilities and recommends improvements that enhance organizational effectiveness.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Advanced knowledge of business intelligence methodologies, reporting life cycle management, analytics, and data visualization principles.
Knowledge of enterprise BI platforms, relational databases, SQL, data warehouses, and reporting architecture.
Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data quality, security, and privacy principles.
Ability to supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate professional and technical staff.
Ability to establish priorities, allocate resources, and manage multiple concurrent projects and competing business needs.
Ability to establish reporting standards and evaluate analytical work products for quality and effectiveness.
Ability to analyze and resolve complex, non-routine reporting and operational problems.
Ability to develop and implement work unit procedures and recommend changes to departmental policies and processes.
Strong leadership, customer relationship management, stakeholder engagement, planning, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical and analytical information to executive, technical, and non-technical audiences.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Position requires: a) direct management and supervision of professional business intelligence and analytics staff; b) responsibility for hiring, work assignment, coaching, performance management, disciplinary actions, and staff development; c) establishment of work priorities and allocation of staff resources; d) technical and operational oversight of complex BI, reporting, dashboard, and analytics solutions; e) responsibility for work unit reporting standards, procedures, data quality, and governance practices; f) management of projects and concurrent analytics initiatives; and g) collaboration with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to support organizational analytics strategies and priorities.

Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
