Summary

Under general supervision, partners with Health Sciences Center (HSC) stakeholders to identify business and reporting needs and develop business intelligence solutions supporting strategic, operational, financial, research, and academic decision-making. Develops and maintains reports, dashboards, visualizations, and analytical solutions using enterprise BI tools, SQL, and data warehouse resources. Ensures data accuracy, integrity, security, and compliance with established governance and regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops, implements, and maintains reports, dashboards, scorecards, visualizations, and analytical solutions using enterprise BI tools and data warehouse resources.
  2. Partners with stakeholders to identify business requirements and translate reporting needs into scalable and actionable BI solutions.
  3. Develops SQL queries to extract, integrate, transform, validate, and analyze data from multiple enterprise systems.
  4. Produces routine, scheduled, and ad hoc reports supporting operational monitoring, regulatory reporting, strategic planning, performance improvement, and decision-making.
  5. Validates and reconciles data across institutional systems; identifies discrepancies and resolves routine reporting and data quality issues.
  6. Monitors and maintains BI solutions and performs testing, troubleshooting, enhancements, and updates resulting from business or system changes.
  7. Creates and maintains technical and functional documentation, including report specifications, data definitions, metadata, data lineage, and reporting standards.
  8. Applies established data governance, security, privacy, data stewardship, and regulatory requirements in the use and reporting of HSC data.
  9. Develops user documentation and provides training and guidance on reports, dashboards, BI tools, and interpretation of institutional data.
  10. Collaborates with business and technical teams to improve reporting processes, data consistency, accessibility, and analytical capabilities.
  11. Maintains knowledge of enterprise data sources, data models, reporting environments, and emerging BI technologies.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of business intelligence, data analysis, reporting, and visualization methodologies.
  • Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, enterprise data warehouses, and data models.
  • Knowledge of data governance, stewardship, data quality, security, and privacy principles.
  • Ability to develop and maintain reports, dashboards, queries, and analytical solutions using enterprise BI tools.
  • Ability to analyze, validate, interpret, and communicate data to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine reporting and data quality issues and collaborate with technical teams on resolution.
  • Skill in documenting business requirements, data definitions, reporting logic, and technical processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and establish effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) professional-level business intelligence and reporting support for HSC systems and functions; b) development and maintenance of reports, dashboards, visualizations, SQL queries, and analytical solutions; c) integration and validation of data from multiple enterprise sources; d) application of established data governance, security, privacy, and regulatory requirements; e) resolution of routine reporting and data issues, with complex or unusual matters referred to higher-level staff; and f) training and support of end users in the effective use of BI tools and information.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
