Summary

Provides individualized business assessment and counseling to clients. Develops and delivers trainings on a variety of business, operational, and management topics. Conducts market research and reporting in support of the goals and objectives of the national and state missions of the Small Business Development Center program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides individualized business counseling to clients in the development of comprehensive business plans, marketing strategies, capital access and formation, loan proposals, strategic plans, license and registration, preparation and analysis of financial statements, and cash flow projections.
  2. Assists clients in developing and implementing plans to stabilize and/or grow their business by making recommendations that are in compliance with all relevant business, accounting, and taxation laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  3. Develops, promotes, coordinates, and delivers business management training programs and workshops.
  4. Monitors and administers program/project revenues and expenses; develops or participates in the development of the program budget.
  5. Prepares reports regarding program efficiency and effectiveness; makes recommendations to management for modifications as required.
  6. Builds relationships with area businesses to establish and develop contract training opportunities
  7. Participates as a member of community groups and organizations to promote local business and economic development within the service area.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop business plans, marketing plans, financial strategies, and business loan proposals.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics and prerequisites of a successful business loan proposal.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of small business operations.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial and tax regulations pertaining to small businesses.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on research data and findings.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
