Summary

Under direct supervision, facilitates the design, development, and delivery of business intelligence (BI) solutions that support operational and strategic decision-making within an integrated, self-contained organizational unit. Works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to produce relevant, timely, and actionable information through the creation and maintenance of reports, dashboards, analyses, and visualizations. Translates business requirements into scalable BI products, ensures data integrity and compliance with governance standards, and supports organizational improvement initiatives by providing data-informed insights.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Designs, develops, and maintains reports, dashboards, and visualizations using BI tools to support departmental and institutional initiatives.
  2. Collaborates with the unit and partners to define reporting needs, develop integrated analyses, performance dashboards, reports, and presentations.
  3. Maintains updates to existing BI products for routine and ad hoc queries from multiple data sources.
  4. Monitors and evaluates data sources, ensuring accuracy, integrity, security, and compliance with applicable standards and governance requirements.
  5. Validates reports, visualizations, and analyses; conducts root cause analyses and implements appropriate resolutions.
  6. Documents BI processes, reporting logic, and data definitions to support accuracy, transparency, and reproducibility.
  7. Supports organizational and process improvement initiatives by providing data analysis and performance insights.
  8. Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs to assist end users in understanding and applying BI tools and reports.
  9. May represent the unit in University-wide BI and/or data governance communities, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  10. Maintains knowledge of trends in higher education, business intelligence, data visualization, and emerging technologies.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of relational databases, modern data structures, and reporting methods, with the ability to develop solutions for diverse reporting needs.
  • Ability to design, develop, and interpret data visualizations and reports for diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of data governance practices and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of enterprise business intelligence tools, development of customized reports, and publication of self-service dashboards.
  • Ability to resolve data storage and retrieval problems and collaborate with IT staff to design modifications.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages and data visualization software.
  • Skills in documenting business intelligence processes, reporting logic, and data definitions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations, procedures, developing, and implementing new technical strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of current trends and emerging technologies in BI and analytics.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Contributes to a team of one or more employees tasked with developing analytics and data visualization to support the Business Intelligence (BI) needs of a department or organizational unit; b) support the development of user requirements, identify data sources and repositories and develop solutions to provide actionable insights; c) create and maintain documents such as end-user manuals and handbooks; d) analyze, interpret and manipulate data; e) support communications and trainings of staff on information resources and data.
