Summary

Collects, evaluates, and prepares research and/or other complex statistical data for a specific unit of the institution. Prepares statistical and narrative reports and recommendations, and participates in the analysis and interpretation of data as appropriate. Develops, maintains, and ensures quality control of databases and may assist in development and implementation of measurement systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops data collection instruments; develops and utilizes instruments and methods for the evaluation and quality control of research or operational data.
  2. Collects, analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data in preparation for generation of statistical and analytical reports.
  3. Maintains computerized collection and tracking of relevant data.
  4. Utilizes specified statistical software to analyze and interpret research data, as appropriate to the individual position.
  5. Maintains appropriate records of research methods and results.
  6. Designs and/or develops specific databases for collection, tracking, and reporting of research data, as appropriate to the position.
  7. May participate in or initiate proposal writing and funding searches; may develop and/or present training programs in field of expertise.
  8. May provide a variety of professional, fiscal, administrative, and/or clerical services to department.
  9. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare research reports and proposals.
  • Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
  • Ability to utilize statistical computer software.
  • Experience with medical billing systems.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Knowledge of research methodology, principles and procedures.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) utilization of in-depth knowledge of statistical concepts in the development of data collection instruments and methods; b) utilization of statistical software and techniques in the analysis and interpretation of complex data sets; c) design, development, and administration of complex statistical databases, based on understanding of underlying data requirements; d) design and production of comprehensive computerized data queries and reports.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
