Summary

Under general supervision, provides training to mailing staff and supports mailing supervisors. Coordinates day-to-day operations between supervisors in Incoming, Outgoing, and Mail Production. Provides high level customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides quality training to staff on all aspects of sorting, processing, and delivering mail; acts as a mentor to new employees.
  2. Delivers individual training and instruction covering specific areas, such as employee orientation, on-the-job training, health and safety practices, and customer service.
  3. Recommends specialized training that meets instructional goals and objectives.
  4. Maintains training aids, including training handbooks and departmental policy and procedures manual.
  5. Coordinates work in outgoing, incoming, and bulk mail departments in assistance to UNM Mailing Systems' supervisors; acts as a stand-in supervisor when needed.
  6. Supports Administrative Assistants with customer service issues and projects as required.
  7. Coordinates or performs administrative functions necessary to deliver and document training programs.
  8. Provides direct customer assistance as required during deliveries; furnishes customers with information regarding University postal policy, USPS regulations, and generally accepted mailing standards.
  9. Transports large University checks to Main US Postal Service facility, for deposit to University postage account; internally transports and processes University checks.
  10. Sorts, prepares and processes incoming US mail, campus mail, parcels, accountable US mail, and bulk mail; meters appropriate classes of outgoing US mail to both domestic and international destinations, in accordance with US Postal Service regulations and the Domestic Mail Manual.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Ability to accurately sort and processes all appropriate classes of mail.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) facilitation of training and development programs; b) consultation and collaboration with staff and supervisors on training and development issues; c) providing direct customer service, advice, and information regarding mailing policies, procedures, and USPS regulations; and d) operation, maintenance, and security of computerized postage equipment.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must be able to work evening and/or weekend overtime as required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
