Summary

Coordinates the acquisition, disposition, and control of inventory according to established policies and procedures. Maintains records of inventories, returns, sales processing. Interacts with vendors and departments regarding special events and marketing of events. Serves as primary contact for special inventory sales events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Monitors and maintains current inventory levels; processes purchasing orders as required; tracks orders and investigates problems.
  2. Handles the acquisition of inventory, to include transporting and warehousing of inventory.
  3. Records purchases, maintains database, performs physical count of inventory, and reconciles actual stock counts to event sales documents.
  4. Processes and documents returns as required following established guidelines.
  5. Prepares and coordinates the details of the inventory sales events including logistics, planning, marketing, and communication of events.
  6. Interacts with vendors and departments regarding procurement procedures and status of orders; maintains and updates product catalogs, vendor files, and price lists for assigned commodity groups.
  7. Inspects inventory and assesses condition for distribution and/or recycling purposes.
  8. Maintains records of inventory acquisition and distribution.
  9. May serve as cashier and handle cash related payments.
  10. Leads, guides, and trains staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; recruits volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  11. May display merchandise in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  12. May serve as primary liaison at general book events; contacts authors and departments to coordinate details of event and marketing.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to determine materials, equipment, and supplies usability.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to reconcile stock counts to report data.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
  • Database management skills.
  • Skill in the use of computers and databases.
  • Ability to prepare documentation.
  • Ability to operate a computerized cash register.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
