Summary
Within either the university's Communication and Marketing Department or the UNM Health and Health Sciences Marketing & Communications Department, executes a variety of institutional-wide communication and public relations initiatives designed to enhance the university's ties to its internal and external constituencies. Produces and disseminates institutional-focused information via multiple media such as news releases, on-line services, audio/visual including video, multi-media content, promotional materials, and speech. Writes for and/or edits institutional campus publication venues. May develop and coordinate website/internet communication resources. Works in a collaborative environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists and advises members of the university community regarding communication/public relations issues that have an institutional-wide impact; assists administrative officers in planning and formulating communication strategies relative to institutional issues and crisis management; build and maintain key relationships within university community.
Plans and disseminates internal and external communication of information through various media that is designed to keep public informed of university programs, accomplishments or points of view.
Cultivates and maintains knowledge of and relationships with key news media at local, state and national levels.
Responds to and follows through on requests for information from the media and the public, determining appropriate, accurate response and appropriate university contacts for response.
Writes, edits, reviews and assures appropriate distribution of communication/public relations materials that have a university-wide impact including news releases, articles, speeches, on-line information services, and broadcast scripts; may oversee production and publication of communication/public relations materials and related communication.
Plan, write for, edit and/or coordinate production of approved university publication venues as appropriate.
Promote public outreach programs as deemed appropriate by university and the department; help design and develop presentations for administration and senior staff.
Gather, write, edit, coordinate and upload information for/to the web site; may assist with the design of consistent methodologies for the development of internet/intranet and new emerging technological communication resources.
Leads or guides the work of a collaborative communication team as appropriate.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
