Summary

Develops and coordinates a wide variety of marketing programs and activities. May serve as a media contact. Writes and/or edits marketing and promotional materials such as brochures, flyers, and other documents; coordinates special marketing events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Writes and edits copy for promotional and informational materials such as catalogs and brochures.
  2. Responds to requests for information from the media and public; distributes promotional materials, including flyers, brochures and press kits; prepares and presents information to internal and external sources.
  3. Assists in designing, coordinating, and presenting marketing programs, publicity efforts, and advertising campaigns; participates in identification and resolution of related problems.
  4. As appropriate to the position, plans or assists with planning and coordinating special events such as open houses, book signings, fundraisers, outreach and community events, tours, press conferences, banquets, exhibits, product or service fairs, and/or athletic events.
  5. Conducts, or assists in conducting portions of market research activities to identify targeted populations, including potential underwriters and sponsors, and to identify the appropriate media for distribution of promotional information.
  6. Maintains database records and files including mailing and contributor or donor lists and publication distribution information.
  7. May lead and/or guide the work of others including volunteers.
  8. Oversees the production of routine promotional printed materials.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of marketing media and funding sources.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate media activities and special events.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Database management skills.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources.
  • Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Writing/editing copy for promotional and informational materials; b) serving as liaison and preparing and presenting information to internal and external sources; c) coordinating promotional activities and special events; d) assisting in conducting market research; and e) ensuring the accuracy of marketing databases and files.

Conditions of Employment

  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
