Summary

Under indirect supervision, the Multimedia Producer/Director researches, plans, produces, and directs a single multimedia story. Single multimedia stories are typically not part of a multiple multimedia series. Schedules, manages, and directs production crew. Provides technical expertise during production. Manages the completion of the single multimedia story, including editing and final documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans and develops a single multimedia story: researches and develops ideas and budgets; writes scripts; schedules interviews, hosts, and facilities; recruits talent; designs sets.
  2. Produces a single multimedia story: conducts interviews; manages talent; may serve as editor, videographer, and/or audio/lighting specialist.
  3. Post-produces a multimedia story: edits videotape; completes related paperwork such as clearances; labels and stores completed show tapes.
  4. Provides training and direction to the production staff, including interns and volunteers.
  5. Participates in the design of video graphics, titles, music, and creative look of shows; makes editorial decisions regarding assembly of information, illustrations, and content.
  6. May assist in repair and upkeep of studio and production sets and properties.
  7. May evaluate new audio/visual equipment and direct the installation and interfacing of new equipment in production facilities and classrooms.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school degree or GED; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Knowledge of professional audio and/or video tape editing and post-production procedures, techniques, and standards.
  • Knowledge of the practices, protocols, and conventions of the entertainment industry.
  • Ability to formulate broadcast programming concepts and to plan, develop, and implement live and/or pre-recorded television programs.
  • Knowledge of television graphic design methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of television production set design principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of television programming concepts, principles, methodology, and techniques.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: (a) complex and integrated planning, development, and production of a single multimedia story; (b) managing from inception to completion of a multimedia single story, including editing, final documenting, and storage of multimedia.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
