Summary
Under direct supervision, provides a variety of technical support services for in-studio and remote field television productions, special projects, and station outreach activities. Transports, sets up, and operates a variety of television equipment; assists with editing of material; assists with staging, set preparation and dressing; and assists in studio and equipment maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Transports, sets up, and operates various television production equipment including cameras, camera control units, audio and video recorders, lighting equipment, props, and microphones for location and studio television production.
Operates and maintains proper levels and calibration of cameras, audio and video recorders, video and audio switchers, teleprompters, and other production equipment.
Prepares studio with requested equipment and sets for meetings, teleconferences, special events, and studio tours.
Performs video logging and timecode window dubs; prepares library materials for integration into productions; performs video and audio library retrieval.
Moves and sets lights as required, ensuring proper light levels and conformance to lighting plans.
Operates audio boards, tape machines, and microphones to ensure proper audio levels and sound quality.
Completes trouble and preventive maintenance reports on video and audio production equipment; assists in repair and upkeep of studio and production sets and properties.
May edit on-line and off-line material.
May produce and edit short segments and spots.
May keep records and schedules of facility use.
May lead and/or guide the work of others including interns, volunteers, and student employees.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to set up and operate television cameras, camera control units, and ancillary production equipment.
Records maintenance skills.
Ability to calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain audiovisual and related production equipment.
Ability to arrange and configure studio facilities and equipment.
Knowledge of audio/video library procedures.
Knowledge of studio lighting and sound procedures and requirements.
Video production and editing skills.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Position requires: a) configuring and operating television cameras, video recorders, and associated electronic equipment as instructed; b) performing basic calibration, maintainance, and troubleshooting audiovisiual and television production equipment; c) transportation, preparation, arrangement for telecast of studio facilities and equipment under direct supervision; d) setting up, operating, and maintaining lighting and audio equipment under direct supervision; e) assistance with routine video processing/editing and preparation of video library materials.
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
