Summary

Designs, develops, and delivers educational programs in support of the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) curriculum and the State of New Mexico Content Standards for participants in a specified enriched elementary/secondary level academic program. Typically, works on an on-call, short-duration basis within defined subject matter areas and program objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops lesson plans and implements curriculum for targeted student audiences within areas of expertise.
  2. Teaches students in a classroom setting; assists with presenting and reinforcing learning concepts within a specified subject or subject area.
  3. Advises and supports student academic success in subject area; provides an environment for academic growth and personal development for students.
  4. Oversees classroom management on a daily basis.
  5. Maintains student academic records and record-keeping ledgers for students participating in the program.
  6. Distributes supplemental assignments to students when needed and as appropriate to the target student population.
  7. Performs evaluations of classes taught for inclusion in academic progress reviews.
  8. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  9. May conduct needs assessments, as appropriate.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Highly developed curriculum development skills within area of subject matter expertise.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach elementary, middle, and/or high school age students within specified area of subject matter expertise.
  • Knowledge and understanding of learning concepts relevant to elementary and/or secondary level students.
  • Analytical, evaluative, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of pre-college educational programs.
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and laws regarding student academic records.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement positive classroon arrangement techniques with a diverse student population.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Elementary or secondary level teaching certification may be a requirement for specified positions in this classification.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Light physical effort; requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 lbs or some standing and/or walking.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
