Summary

Under general direction, provides integrated research, planning, and technical leadership in the development and implementation of complex large scope information technology initiatives for non-enterprise activities. Identifies key strategic opportunities, and interfaces with leadership and other professionals in the representation, development and implementation of such initiatives. Establishes the functions required for the successful development and implementation of tools required by users/customers. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, software, and/or systems relative to high performance computing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a principal point of collaboration, consultation, technical leadership, and expertise on large scope, non-enterprise projects to both internal and external constituencies on matters within the IT area(s) of focus.
  2. Provides technical leadership on a variety of highly specialized project-related activities requiring expertise in specific scientific/technical areas for non-enterprise systems and services.
  3. Serves as subject matter expert in a multi-disciplinary design group.
  4. May integrate and supervise the work of other IT professionals.
  5. Identifies and participates in highly specialized evaluations of strategic opportunities pertinent to the objectives of the overall activity for non-enterprise projects.
  6. May research cost projections of projects and recommend appropriate actions with regards to budget. May assist in the identification of funding sources, and development and preparation of funding proposals.
  7. Analyzes unique and/or highly complex, integrated user project proposals for non-enterprise software, systems, and networks; identifies omissions and errors in requirements and conducts feasibility studies; recommends optimum approach and develops systems and/or applications design for approved projects.
  8. Coordinates the development, implementation, installation, and testing of complex non-enterprise software/systems/networks; reviews designs, analyzes, and codes for quality and adherence to standards, ensures reliability of cross-university systems and develops procedures for the maintenance of software/systems/networks.
  9. Independently designs and implements integrated information systems solutions to meet university requirements.
  10. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to act independently and provide leadership at an advanced level of technical expertise.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, methods, and techniques within a prescribed area of professional specialty.

Conditions of Employment

  • Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by the department.
  • Must maintain certification status.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
