Summary

Plans, administers, and directs all NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic programs for men and women. Ensures that all athletics programs are in compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and Mountain West Conference (MWC) rules, regulations, and policies, and ensures that all programs and initiatives are integrated and effective in supporting the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the institution. Directly participates in institutional planning and decision making as a member of the University's Executive Cabinet.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directs activities of a complex intercollegiate athletics organization including all intramural and extramural men's and women's sports programs.
  2. Plans and develops strategies for generating revenues and resources for the university's athletics department while promoting public support for athletes.
  3. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
  4. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  5. Oversees and directs facilities usage of all athletic buildings and equipment.
  6. Represents the university to various institutional divisions as well as externally to the media, prospective student-athletes and their parents, prospective funding agencies and private donors, national athletic regulatory and governance bodies, university alumni, and the general public.
  7. Articulates philosophy and vision for the future of intercollegiate athletics while providing student-athletes with a sense of pride and leadership.
  8. Participates in the review, development, and establishment of general University policies and procedures as a member of the President's Executive Cabinet.
  9. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
  • Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
