Summary

Directs and oversees all coaching duties for a UNM athletic program operating under NCAA Division I operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competition, and oversees the planning and fiscal management of program activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training, and competition.
  2. Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending site events, and home visits.
  3. Directs all aspects, areas and components of sports team Coordinates all strategic aspects of the specific sports program.
  4. Represents sports program to various institutional programs and externally as appropriate.
  5. Manages daily operations of the athletic program; directs, supervises, and coordinates all administrative facets.
  6. Oversees all aspects of the financial operation of the athletic program.
  7. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; minimum directly related experience requirement is determined by the VP for Athletics.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and communication skills acquired as an NCAA-level coach.
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
  • Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
