Summary

Under general direction, supervises the daily activities of custodial services, including personnel assignment, training and management, quality assurance, and inventory control.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  2. Estimates job costs, and develops and implements cost-cutting procedures; reviews work orders and orders necessary supplies, chemicals and materials.
  3. Maintains records on employees, equipment, and maintenance activities; plans and coordinates custodial projects, as needed.
  4. Organizes and allocates workloads to ensure balance and that deadlines are met; schedules work assignments in order of priority and date received.
  5. Supervises the ordering, care, maintenance, and utilization of department equipment, supplies, keys, and inventories.
  6. Assists in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitors expenditures.
  7. Inspects work areas to ensure consistency and quality of work and adherence to established procedures, safety regulations, and infection control standards.
  8. Ensures adherence to established University and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
  9. Trains employees on cleaning and equipment techniques, methods, and procedures.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Supervision of custodial personnel; b) Estimation of job costs and implementation of cost-cutting procedures; c) Review of work orders and customer satisfaction; d) Participation in annual budget planning process and monitoring of expenditures.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
