Summary

Issues sports and/or recreational equipment to a variety of customers. Keeps stock of new and used athletic supplies such as balls, gloves, bats, shoes, and other equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains and issues sports equipment and assigns lockers.
  2. Launders, marks, and issues towels.
  3. Maintains, washes, and mends equipment and uniforms.
  4. Maintains and issues golf carts and balls.
  5. Schedules reservations for sports facilities.
  6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; no previous experience required.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of laundry cleaning procedures.
  • Knowledge of athletic, mechanical, and electronic equipment, supplies, and/or uniform repair.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to schedule events and/or facilities usage.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Maintaining and issuing sports equipment and lockers to a variety of customers; b) laundering, marking and issuing towels; c) scheduling reservations for sports facilities; and d) mending equipment and uniforms.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
