Summary

Provides general housekeeping, cooking, laundry, and message-taking services at University House.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides housekeeping services for University House including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and other cleaning services.
  2. Bakes, cooks, and uses other methods to prepare a wide variety of food items for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and receptions held at University House.
  3. Washes and irons linens such as tablecloths, napkins, and other items.
  4. Prepares for special events by setting tables, arranging flowers, and making seating arrangements.
  5. Answers the telephone and takes messages.
  6. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to perform housekeeping activities.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of culinary practices.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of laundry cleaning procedures.
  • Ability to answer telephone and take messages.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
