Under direct supervision, performs routine custodial work that does not involve chemical usage. This position does not require the ability to read. grade change 04/17/03

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Dusts and mops floors.
  2. Vacuums carpets.
  3. Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal.
  4. Cleans restrooms and restocks paper and soap supplies.
  5. Locks doors after cleaning areas.
  6. May oversee and/or assist with snow removal activities.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Less than high school; no previous experience required.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to understand verbal instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Performing custodial duties that do not involve chemical usage; b) dusts, mops, vacuums, empties trash, and cleans restrooms.

Conditions of Employment

  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
