Summary

Manages and coordinates the integrated medical, nursing, patient care, and administrative operations of a large, full range primary care clinic. Formulates clinical and patient care policies, protocol, and procedures, establishes and and manages budgets and business/administrative systems, and participates in strategic decision making for the operation. Directs, coordinates, and oversees the day-to-day activities of mid-level providers, nursing, and support staff. May organize, direct, manage, and coordinate programs related to Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans, implements, and evaluates all clinical care services provided by the unit, as well as all associated administrative operations and activities.
  2. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
  3. Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.
  4. Directs and coordinates nursing, program, and clinical educational and in-service activities for the component.
  5. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  6. Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization.
  7. Recommends and participates in the development of university policies and procedures; may serve on university planning and policy-making committees.
  8. Represents the University to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, vendors, students and their parents, and/or the general public.
  9. Reviews, establishes, and maintains patient care protocol and standards, ensuring that all federal and State policies, regulations, and guidelines for patient care are met; establishes and coordinates quality improvement, safety, and infection control programs.
  10. May organize, direct, manage, and coordinate programs related to Continous Qualtity Improvement (CQI).
  11. May design and implement program evaluations on all aspects of CQI throughout the unit.
  12. May provide feedback and recommendations on adherence to quality standards.
  13. May compile statistical data and write reports on quality management findings.
  14. May develop cooperative relationships with outside agencies to pursue goals related to quality.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Conditions of Employment

  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • May require licensure as a Registered Nurse and/or certification as a mid-level provider (NP or PA), as appropriate to the individual position.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • Work may involve some exposure to operating circumstances that require following standard or prescribed safety precautions.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
