Summary

Applying for this position will place you in a general temporary pool of candidates with UNMTemps Services for non-benefits eligible positions in departments and campuses throughout the University. Qualified applicants are placed into temporary general labor assignments as positions become vacant; when regular employees are absent; as supplemental support for department projects; during peak work periods; and for special events. This pool is looking for the individuals to perform the following labor responsibilities: Trades - (Trades Tech Helper, Facilities Services Tech) Assists building trades technicians by performing a wide range of facilities services tasks including non-technical maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, and/or air conditioning facilities and equipment, at a level not requiring formal licensure. May be required to perform tasks of other unlicensed trades, such as a light equipment operator, carpenter, painter, and/or locksmith. General Labor- (Custodian, Lead Custodian, General Services Asst., Mover) Provides a diverse range of routine general services and custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms. May perform routine clerical services, basic equipment maintenance and repair, materials handling, loading, unloading and transport of materials/furniture, logistical support, routine security and/or customer services. Grounds Maintenance - (Grounds Tech Helper, Grounds Tech, Turf Tech) Performs routine grounds maintenance that may include watering, raking, mowing, weeding, planting, edging, salting, snow removal, and trash/litter removal. May apply fertilizers and pesticides and prepare areas for new turf. May operate truck and/or powered grounds equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Depending on job title, position may require a High school diploma or GED; and up to 12 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license, as appropriate to position.
  • May be required to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be required to pass post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Considerable physical activity (more than 70%). The majority of the duties performed may require heavy physical work; heavy lifting or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Work may involve almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
