Summary

Performs roofing and repairs on various types of roofs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Inspects roofs; determines repairs needed.
  2. Installs new roofs to include shingle, built-up, and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) systems.
  3. Repairs all types of roofing systems.
  4. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  5. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Less than high school; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to inspect roofs to determine repair needs.
  • Ability to install roofing materials and adhesives.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions on the use of appropriate tools and applications techniques.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Inspecting roofs to determine needed repairs; and b) installing and repairing all types of roofing systems.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb 36 foot extension ladder.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
