Applies paints, solvents, sealants, and caulk to wood, plaster, sheet rock, concrete, and synthetic interior and external finishes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Applies paints, sealers, and solvents to exterior and interior building surfaces such as plaster, sheetrock, concrete, and wood.
Operates equipment such as airless spray equipment, scaffolding, and motorized lifts.
Performs surface preparation, including application of putty, wood filler, spackling, and caulks.
Prepares surfaces by sanding, cleaning, and pressure washing.
May apply exterior caulking to building joints and seams under direct supervision.
Performs flat glass repairs.
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Less than high school; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Skill in selecting and applying paint and associated products.
Skill in wood surface preparation, staining, and/or sealing techniques.
Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
Knowledge of glass repair techniques, tools and materials.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Position requires: a) Applying paints, solvents, sealants and caulk to exterior and interior surfaces; b) performing surface preparation; and c) operating equipment such as spray equipment, motorized lifts and scaffolding.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Must be capable of climbing and working from ladders up to 36 feet.
