Summary

Under general direction, coordinates the daily customer order fulfillment activities of the UNM Sign Shop. Facilitates interaction between customers, suppliers, departments, and branding entities. Leads and trains employees who process orders, creates and implements sign production processes, and schedules and releases orders for shipment according to sales policy and customer requirements. Investigates and resolves complex customer requests.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises the day-to-day operations of the unit, to include supervision of personnel, ensuring effective customer service, processing of customer orders, evaluating end products for quality and instructing staff on appropriate use of equipment.
  2. Receives, prioritizes, and processes customer orders; schedules and releases orders for fulfillment and installation according to policy.
  3. Investigates and resolves complex customer requests.
  4. Reviews computer system input, invoice and report output, and system operation procedures.
  5. Develops operating goals and objectives for the unit; implements and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit.
  6. Assists in maintaining equipment and material inventory.
  7. Orders departmental supplies, materials, and miscellaneous shop items.
  8. Facilitates interaction between customers, branding and marketing, facility standards, and suppliers.
  9. Fabricates signs according to established standards using computers and cutting machines and various other types of equipment; operates computer, vinyl cutting, and engraving equipment.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable software and database systems,
  • Knowledge of procedures and documentation for the processing and placement of retail customer orders.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Skill in daily use of various equipment, such as printers, plotters, and engravers
  • Knowledge of various materials related to sign production.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand brand, sign and ADA guidelines.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Knowledge of general sign fabrication and design principles.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
