Summary

Sorts and delivers Incoming & Campus mail. Organizes bulk mailings. Operates postage meter machine. Works some evenings and/or weekends, as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Picks up and delivers mail from/to US Main Post Office in a timely manner.
  2. Sorts and delivers incoming mail, parcels, and other materials to university departments.
  3. Collects, weighs, and affixes postage to outgoing mail, parcels, and other materials for domestic and international destinations in accordance with US Postal charts and regulations.
  4. Maintains appropriate records for postage and accountable mail.
  5. Maintains current standards and compliance with postal regulations.
  6. Keeps work areas orderly, clean, and safe; ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  8. Ensures the security and confidentiality of all University Incoming, Outgoing, and Campus mail.
  9. May assist with bulk and print-to-mail processing on mail production equipment.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; no previous experience required.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to sort and/or distribute mail.
  • Knowledge of United States Post Office regulations.
  • Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to understand and follow security and confidentiality guidelines.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Picking up and delivering mail to the USPS; b) sorting and delivering incoming mail and parcels to University departments; c) weighing and affixing proper postage to outgoing materials; and d) maintaining current standards and compliance with US postal regulations.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must be able to work evening and/or weekend overtime as required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; stair climbing, heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds for extended periods of time.
  • Work involves frequent repetitive motion including but not limited to bending, twisting, and repetitive hand/wrist motion.
