Manages and administers the day-to-day operations and activities of the University Bookstores. Manages all retail operations and assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the bookstores. Develops and participates in the market strategies and promotions of product for the bookstores. Oversees the fiscal margins and prices of the retail areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversee all facets of the daily operation of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with the University, state and federal laws, policies and regulations.
  2. Manages the day-to-day retail areas, it's operations and all related Human Resource issues.
  3. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  4. Develops and implements systems and procedures to establish and maintain margins and pricing for the unit. Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction for the unit.
  5. Designs and guides the development and implementation of marketing programs and promotions.
  6. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the unit.
  7. Participates and assists with the development of customer oriented policies and procedures and a comprehensive customer service program.
  8. Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in the accomplishment of established goals.
  9. Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
  10. Assists in the establishment of departmental budgets.
  11. Provides guidance and leadership to the organization.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Light physical effort; requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 lbs or some standing and/or walking.
