Summary

Identifies opportunities and implements strategies for earned income in support of station operations, to include development of entrepreneurial activities as well as the management of marketing and sales of underwriting, and station products and services. Continually evaluates and adjusts marketing and sales strategies; recommends changes in marketing/sales philosophy and policies when such changes serve the best interests of the station. Oversees performance of Corporate Support personnel to meet station goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Analyzes industry trends, and evaluates markets to identify potential underwriters, sponsors, and partners for programming, productions, education and outreach, and special events.
  2. Uses entrepreneurial and business skills to identify and implement new earned income opportunities that raise money and advance station goals and objectives.
  3. Prepares and executes business plans for Corporate Support operations including budgets, timelines, projected results, and tracking of actual performance.
  4. Prepares marketing and sales presentations.
  5. Prepares in-depth financial reports evaluating overall department and individual project performance.
  6. Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings; promotes strategic alliances and partnerships in support of existing and new projects.
  7. Develops annual operating budget and provides fiscal direction to the unit.
  8. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  9. May oversee the management and administration of specialized databases.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Knowledge of social entrepreneurship, marketing, and sales.
  • Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  • Entrepreneurial and business skills to identify and implement new earned income opportunities consistent with station goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of public television underwriting rules and best practicies.
  • Knowledge of marketing/sales principles, strategies, and techniques.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Knowledge of sales/advertising requirements pertaining to a range of media.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate activities and special events.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, cost estimating, monitoring, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Development of entrepreneurial marketing/sales strategies; b) supervision of personnel in Corporate Support Department; c) representation of the department to internal/extrenal sources; d) projection and evaluation of department effectiveness; and e) management of departmental budget.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
