Summary

Oversees the operational planning, establishment, execution and evaluation of ongoing and sustainable social media communications. Produces relevant content for various social media sites for targeted audiences. Oversees and provides leadership to staff contributing to content production. Ensures all online venues are updated and maintained consistently to maintain positive online presence. Educates and trains UNM community on proper use of social media and online communications. Serves as the subject matter expert on social media and online content management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Writes, edits, and manages all social media related content.
  2. Launches and manages social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other relevant social networking sites.
  3. Provides education and direction to departments, faculty, staff and students in developing strategic social media plans; works closely with departments to ensure proper content and messaging executed online is relevant to organizational goals.
  4. Monitors any and all mention of the organization found online; tracks alerts and monitors social media sites around the clock via mobile devices.
  5. Manages online discussions in a timely manner and crafts responses to blogs, other social media sites, and online news outlets.
  6. Trains and advices on running effective social media campaigns for departments to establish consistency of communications across multiple networks.
  7. Builds strong relationships with members of the media by providing constant, relevant, and newsworthy information on the social media sites.
  8. Conducts weekly editorial meetings to collect ideas from team members and oversee editorial calendar of upcoming stories.
  9. Oversees and/or coordinates the collection, compilation, and analysis of online activity data; develops, writes, and presents comprehensive statistical and narrative reports.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
  • Strong creative and editorial writing skills.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Strong interviewing skills and the ability to create timely and newsworthy stories.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse university and health care community.
  • Ability to gather analytical data, compile information, and prepare reports for presentation to executive boards.
  • Ability to provide technical coordination and management of development and/or implementation projects in area of expertise.
  • Social media program planning and implementation skills.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
