Summary

Provides direction of sales floor cashiering and customer service operations. Coordinates store charge account operations and assists with AR billing procedures, data management, and customer service inquiries. Processes retail sales and cash register transactions. Implements stock control and security procedures. Provides general administrative support.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conducts cashiering and buyback transactions; provides quality customer service.
  2. Assists in coordinating the scheduling and training of student and temporary employees within the customer service operation.
  3. Ensures optimal customer service and cashiering coverage during business hours; assists un coordinating and directing sales floor activity and workflow.
  4. Guides daily customer service operations in the absence of the Customer Service/Loss Prevention Supervisor.
  5. Coordinates store charge account operations and record-keeping; builds and modifies store charge accounts accurately and promptly.
  6. Investigates and corrects store charge transaction errors.
  7. Serves as liaison between the unit and the Bursar's Office in matters pertaining to store charge accounts.
  8. Performs daily and monthly AR and end-of-month duties consisting of AR billing and uploads into Banner.
  9. Performs routine automated AR account set-up in Banner and VR.
  10. Provides AR customer service; responds to inquiries, supplies documentation, conducts research and makes corrections as needed.
  11. Monitors incoming and outgoing traffic and reports security concerns to management; responds to pedestal alarms and loss prevention concerns within established guidelines.
  12. Orders and stocks departmental supplies; performs general floor maintenance and housekeeping; monitors and maintains the condition and safekeeping of merchandise and/or equipment.
  13. Provides general administrative support; assists store management with the scheduling of appointments, interviews, and travel.
  14. Performs internet order fulfillment responsibilities as assigned.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of basic cash management procedures.
  • Ability to secure and handle cash.

  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements.

  • Ability to guide and train staff and/or students.
  • Ability to project and handle customer service/cashiering workflow within a high-volume retail environment.
  • Knowledge of store safety and security procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic internet order fulfillment procedures.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) acting as the primary point of contact for teh coordination of cashiering and customer service coverage; b) guiding the cashiering and customer service operations in the absence of the Customer Service/Loss Prevention Supervisor; c) acting as the primary point of contact for the coordination of all customer service operations pertaining to store charge accounts; d) providing support in operations pertaining to AR billing and file maintenance; e) providing administrative support.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. May require physical effort including lifting up to 25 pounds and some extended periods of standing or walking.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
