The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. Develops and implements a wide variety of marketing, promotional, and fundraising programs and initiatives in support of current and emerging programs and services. Creates, translates, and/or edits marketing and promotional materials such as brochures, flyers, and other documents; coordinates special marketing events; conducts international market research and forecasting activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops and implements marketing programs, publicity efforts, and advertising campaigns; prepares budget estimates for promotional campaigns, and participates in the identification and resolution of related problems.
  2. Conducts, or assists in conducting portions of market research activities to identify target markets, including potential underwriters and sponsors; and to identify the appropriate media for distribution of promotional information.
  3. Plans, organizes, and facilitates specific promotional, fundraising and special events, conferences and workshops, outreach and community events, press conferences, banquets, exhibits, and related activities.
  4. Designs, writes, edits, and oversees the production of printed promotional and informational materials, to include catalogue pages, brochures, and flyers; negotiates directly with vendors regarding media cost, placement, and production scheduling.
  5. Distributes and/or presents information and promotional materials to the media, internal and external agencies, and the general public, as appropriate.
  6. Initiates and/or participates in direct or indirect interactions with partners and potential partners, and the planning and management of membership development programs and initiatives.
  7. Manages the development and maintenance of websites and the project participation in social networks.
  8. Develops online services in close collaboration with technical personnel.
  9. Represents and promotes interests at business and community meetings and events, either on-site or at regional, national, and/or international venues, as appropriate.
  10. Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; produces periodic evaluation reports and prepares proposals for program enhancements and new initiatives.
  11. Prepares proposals for program enhancements and new initiatives.
  12. Develops and maintains associated database records and files, to include mailing lists, contributor or donor lists, and publication distribution information.
  13. May lead and/or coordinate the work of volunteers and/or staff engaged to support associated events, projects and programs.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or Business Administration; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate media activities and special events.
  • Knowledge and detailed understanding of Latin American socioeconomic and cultural environments, and political processes and institutions.
  • Ability to fluently speak, read, write, and edit in the Spanish language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of fundraising and development principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, and methodologies.
  • Skill in organizing resources, analyzing and solving problems, establishing priorities, and making evaluative judgements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the specified mission, goal and objectives, and operational focus of the organization.
  • Effective public speaking and media presentation skills.
  • Ability to prepare and implement marketing plans and programs.
  • Knowledge of market research principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of communication and advertising principles, strategies, techniques, and media.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit complex written materials in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of general trends in information technology.
  • Skill in the use of content management systems (CMS), e-mail marketing applications, personal computers and related software applications including In Design, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Microsoft Visio.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
